Rouisseau Briards Australia
Our story began in 1984 with Bruinbri Le Chapelier — “Chappy” — a little black boy who was everything to me. Funny, smart, mischievous, and endlessly loving, I could not have wished for a better friend or companion.
Behind Chappy stood Alex and Jean McAlpine, the heart of Bruinbri and true trailblazers of the 1970s. In those early days, their vision and dedication were instrumental in establishing the breed in Australia. Alongside a small band of passionate enthusiasts, they carefully and strategically imported dogs and bitches, laying strong foundations and ensuring genetic diversity for generations to come.
The McAlpines were among the kindest people I have ever known — generous with their knowledge, unwavering in their support, and exceptional mentors. Through them, Chappy and I found our way into the world of conformation showing, always guided by encouragement, patience, and genuine friendship.
I was lucky enough to have Alex & Jean for company at Victorian country dog shows, chatting about all things Briard; type, health, movement, coat, importing, breeding & critiquing our own dogs & others in Australia & overseas.
After attaining his title of Australian Champion, Chappy and I continued our journey together in Obedience Trials, embracing new challenges and deepening our partnership as a team. Yet beyond showing and obedience, our greatest joy was simply being best mates.
